What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells made from a durable, tooth-colored material like porcelain that are attached to the front surfaces of your teeth to hide visual imperfections. They are customized to match the shape and color of your natural grin for a flawless appearance. They’ll look and feel natural so that no one will even know they’re there! Plus, the material is non-porous so it resists breaking and staining in addition to protecting the underlying tooth. Veneers are used to address several problems including:

  • Small gaps
  • External and internal discoloration
  • Minor chips or fractures
  • Slightly crooked teeth
  • Misshapen teeth

The Process of Getting Veneers

When you get dental veneers at Parks Family Dental, the process takes 2 visits and typically involves:

  • Initial consultation. First, you’ll need to meet with Dr. Parks for an oral examination so he can verify that you’re a good candidate for veneers. He’ll also take the time to get to know your medical history and dental goals to build a treatment plan that works for you.
  • Preparing your teeth. For the veneers to line up evenly against your gums, we first have to remove a small amount of enamel (usually no thicker than a contact lens) from your natural teeth.
  • Taking impressions. Using state-of-the-art digital imaging and impressions, our team will capture a comprehensive 3D picture of your teeth which will be sent to the lab to build your veneers.
  • Placing temporary veneers. To ensure that your prepared teeth don’t sustain any damage while waiting on your veneers, Dr. Parks will place temporary ones for the time being.

Once your final veneers arrive, we’ll schedule you for another appointment to test the fit and make any necessary last-minute adjustments before attaching them.

The Benefits of Veneers

Veneers are a multipurpose method that can improve the look and feel of your smile. Some additional advantages are:

  • Longevity. Veneers can last 15+ years with the right care.
  • Natural appearance. The porcelain will be colored and shaped to fit precisely into your grin.
  • Convenience. Maintaining veneers is as simple as brushing and flossing your teeth twice daily.
  • Minimally invasive. There are no surgical procedures or complicated recoveries to contend with.
  • Fewer restrictions. Veneers resist breaking and discoloration so there are fewer dietary restrictions than with some options; however, they can still be harmed by overly hard foods or objects.
